ENGL 32651

Sec: 01

Even though these difficult times have burdened our education, Professor Calado has shown constant vigilance and care into making each lecture as interactive as possible.

Ms. Calado was excellent and flexible when it came to adapting the course to remote learning. I give her so much credit. She was very understanding about the stressors we were all facing while under lockdown. I felt like her expectations were always achievable and she was the most realistic when expecting a certain degree of work while learning remotely. I still feel like I got a lot out of the course and I know she was always available to talk about the subject and our work. It was obvious how much effort she put into the class and how much she personally enjoyed the subject. What helped me besides her availability was her ability to split us into groups. Not only did I find this helped during remote learning, but I was lucky enough to be in a group that was engaging, inquisitive, and inevitably enjoyable. The group discussions ended up being the highlight of my day where I felt some normalcy of feeling like I was in a classroom with my peers. It is obvious how Calado had us in mind in maintaining a healthy amount of communication and participation for the class and for our well being. I think she was really on top of how to conduct a class remotely. I very much felt she had our well being and interest as students at heart. I appreciated it when she asked us on how we should be graded for our final papers. Out of the craziness of the pandemic, she still kept in mind the well being of her students. If I wasn't graduating, I would've loved to take another class with her. She's an example of the best that the CUNY teaching grad center has to offer.

Made sure each student understood what was expected from them and always provided extra help for those who needed. The assignments were clear and gave students enough time to complete. She really made me interested in the topics we discussed and encouraged a lot of participation.

Excellent instructor and excellent course!

I really enjoyed the readings we did for this class and the discussions we engaged in before everything went remote. I think a good substitution for that was our remote discussions and group discussion when we did Diaz and Machado, but it would have been great in class. I hope you get to teach this course again for future students at Hunter, I would definitely recommend it.

Thank you!! I loved all the readings

Thank you for choosing interesting material that encouraged me to want to know more about literature in the LatinX community.

One of the best classes and professors I've had.

Miss Calado has been such a great professor! I loved the stories and novels she chose to teach us, especially “This is How you lose her” everyone who has the chance to take her should definitely do it. They won’t regret it.
